Avery good cruise despite a huge Covid outbreak

We are ex-Alaskans who have both lived in SE Alaska & we wanted to have an opportunity to visit some truly remote corners of SE AK. This cruise provided that experience for us. We were not disappointed; however, we were very unhappy with the Covid situation since an outbreak developed within two days of boarding the ship. This may have been averted had a rapid Covid test requirement been required within 24 hours of departure. Because of the spread of Covid, it would also make sense to have the crew wear masks to keep themselves & passengers healthy. At present, one or more of the crew members may be an asymptomatic spreader of the virus. While the crew member may feel healthy, they may harbor the virus and pass it to others. My husband took part in the Falls Lake hike & does not recommend it because of the extreme conditions (deep mud, slippery roots & rocks, wet logs, etc.). The trail is not maintained on the upper sections & is dangerous. One woman on the hike sprained her ankle & was fortunately able to walk out but if she had broken it, the situation would have been quite different. A different hike location would be a better option. The last day of the cruise en route to Sitka should be more organized to offer more activities than a short hike (eg kayaking). We were pleased with the service we received, the food & we would recommend it post-Covid.

Remote places in SE AK we had never visited; wildlife watching; hardworking & friendly crew

The trip was a gift to my mother for her 80th birthday and the crew went out of their way to help make it special for her, and us as a family.
