Highlights
Originally an oceanographic research vessel for the University of Washington, the MV Catalyst now offers small ship cruises to South-East Alaska. Exploring the Inside and Eastern Passages, guests can visit tidewater glaciers, kayak through narrow inlets like previous adventurers such as John Muir once did and journey through ice-filled fjords. Experience nature at its best and see amazing wildlife like brown bears, harbor seals, humpback whales, and orcas. You will travel through fishing towns and experience the remote wilderness at its finest as the talented and passionate crew of the MC Catalyst show you all that South-East Alaska has to offer, as the itineraries have been carefully crafted over decades of experience.
Catering to only 12 adventurers, the M/V Catalyst has 6 cabins on board. Cabin 1, located on the main deck, has a private en-suite bathroom, as does cabin 6 on the upper deck. Cabins 2, 3, 4 & 5 are on the lower deck and share a bathroom. Food on board MV Catalyst is sourced locally and prepared from fresh ingredients, and where possible, is organic and non-processed.

Enjoy every day actively in a small ship surrounded by untouched nature.
The ship, cozy cabin, friendly helpful crewThe food, varied, creative and cooked to the highest standard. Nature, Glacier Bay offers extraordinarily varied insights into untouched nature.Activities with kayak or short excursions on land to observe wildlife and flora under the competent guidance of the guide. Animals sighted: whales, wolves, bears, sea otters, sea lions, marmots, countless birds. The trip exceeded our expectations, we are overwhelmed by what we experienced. Everything was just great!

Re-live the explorations of John Muir.
Having only 6 guests was a dividend - twice the crew's attention, half the time to load the tender, half the "cats to herd" when bushwacking so our naturalist was able to bring us waaayyy off the beaten track. Many activities and stops that weren't in the standard itinerary. Excellent chef Nikki led us in foraging and rewarded our work with unique meals. Exceptional onboard library. This is an expensive cruise, but you'll know it was worth it when you pull into Juneau when 15,000 people are pouring off 5 mega cruise ships.

- Visited remote & rarely seen sites, first time experiences even for the seasoned crew. I lost count of the wildlife sightings - humpbacks, bald eagles, bears, sea lions, seals. 100s.. Truly fine dining with excellent wine pairings.

Had a great time on the Catalyst
This trip was a family reunion for us. It gave us the opportunity to enjoy our time together while all of the meals and activities were taken care of by the crew. All of my family members enjoyed our time on the Catalyst and reluctantly disembarked when the trip ended. We wished we could have stayed longer.

Delightful Cruise
My wife and I just completed a delightful week on the small ship Catalyst in southeast Alaska. The nearly 90-year old ship has been kept in excellent, original condition and is very comfortable for the guests in the six cabins. The crew of four are each very talented and experienced in their special roles on board. Each meal was prepared from fresh foods by a creative chef, sometimes using natural vegetation we gathered from our shore walks. Of course, we were in Alaska and we not disappointed with sightings of whales, orcas, porpoises, seals, sea lions, and birds. On land many grizzlies and black bears showed us their lives and the spring blooms were colorful. Rising above the sea the glaciers and mountains were spectacular and the small boat was able enter little-seen fiords. Dan J and Star W

What a fantastic trip!
What a fantastic trip! We came from the UK and have never had such a brilliant week. Everything was great - the magnificent boat, the amazing food (every single meal, three times a day), the very interesting, varied and awe-inspiring intinerary, the opportunity to see so much wild life (bears, whales, eagles, so many birds and marine life etc). It did rain but that only added to the ethereal atmosphere. The crew were so helpful to every need. There was a very friendly set of people on the boat and everyone slept so well - it was really cosy and comfortable.

I had a blast!
Rainforest walk, kayaking, wales and other wildlife watching, glacier experience the mixed weather was actually great, the colors amazing! I loved the small boat It was great to watch the crew doing their work. - incl the chef at his cooking. Would do it again!

Best trip ever!
This really was a cruise of a lifetime. Met some lovely people who we hope to keep in touch with. The cruise was not a bit like the itinerary and that really needs updating as it bore no resemblance to the actual trip. However the crew made it a wonderful experience. Thanks to Che, Kelly, Kyle and the wonderful Hannah, you guys made our dreams come true!
