Liveaboard Diving in Leru Cut

What to expect On a Leru Cut Liveaboard

Liveaboards to Leru Cut, located within the volcanic Russell Islands, will be taking divers to the Solomon Islands' most iconic dive site. Leru Island, part of the remote Russell Islands, is a small landmass with a 5-meter wide crevice splitting a coral wall. Follow the cut along the sandy bottom at 15-20 meter depths towards the interior of the island while sunlight gently filters down, lighting your way through crystal clear water. This magical dive among the pristine Russell Islands is best accessed by a Solomon Islands liveaboard dive cruise.

What You Will See

Leru Cut can be a multi-faceted experience depending on your preference. If you choose, dive down between the walls and follow the gap in the coral for about 100 meters, then surface in a small lagoon with dense tropical rainforest shading you overhead.

While underwater, explore the walls of the cut and search out the tiny creatures hiding along the way. There are large sea fans and colorful coral to view along the walls but Leru Cut has been made famous by photographers capturing diver silhouettes in the soft sunlight seeping down into the shadows. Don't forget your model and your camera at this site. After exploring The Cut, a wall dive featuring massive gorgonians, soft coral, and a plethora of little critters such as popcorn and anemone shrimp round out this fascinating dive.

Getting To Leru Cut

Honiara is the capital and primary port of arrival for the Solomon Islands and lies on the northern shore of Guadalcanal Island. All Solomon Islands liveaboard dive expeditions depart from Honiara and the Russell Islands are directly northwest, approximately 48 kilometers from the island itself and approximately 100 km from Honiara. Leru Cut is located within the Russell Islands on Leru Island. This area can be leisurely explored on a 3-day dive cruise or part of a longer liveaboard itinerary.
