The KLM Gaya Baru Indah is a traditional sailing phinisi offering liveaboard diving around Indonesia's 'Bird's Head Seascape', which includes Raja Ampat. She typically only takes 8 guests per cruise, meaning a more personalized and intimate service. There are 4 cabins available; two double cabins and 2 twin cabins, each with air-conditioning, fan, and reading light. There are 3 shared bathrooms on the upper deck with freshwater showers, shampoo, soap and a toilet. There is ample room to relax and enjoy the stunning surroundings aboard the Gaya Baru Indah liveaboard. During the day, awnings are set up to provide shade from the hot tropical sun, and in the evening, they are drawn back to make way for stargazing. Three delicious meals per day plus plenty of snacks are prepared with a mix of Indonesian and western cuisine. The Gaya Indah Baru has 13 crew catering to 8 passengers, meaning someone is always available to help the valued guests enjoy their trip to the maximum.

the most beautiful and peaceful dive trip

I spent 7 days on the Gaya Baru Indah, diving in Raja Ampat. It was a fantastic experience. The boat had a lovely traditional charm, and the crew was incredibly friendly and helpful throughout the trip, always making sure we were comfortable. The food was absolutely delicious—fresh, flavorful, and plentiful, offering a variety of options to suit every taste. After each dive, there was nothing better than coming back to a yummy meal while enjoying the stunning views of the surrounding islands. The diving itself was amazing. The vibrant coral reefs and diverse marine life made every dive memorable, with a wide range of sites to explore. The crew ensured everything went smoothly, making the whole experience safe and super enjoyable. The little traditions around leaving the boat to go diving and returning back always increased our already huge smiles and the vibe was heartwarmingly wholesome. Our trip was in September and the weather was perfect. Somehow we ended up having the boat to us, turning the already expected cozy max 8 divers to a private trip. Ralf told us a lot about Raja Ampat and we had pleasant and interesting talks about every topic imaginable. He managed the itinerary such that we hadn't any big overlaps with any other liveaboards and had most divesites completely to us. This not only meant more fish underwater and less distractions but it also allowed us to do everything in our own pace. A luxury you won't get on liveaboards with multiple times the cost. I'm glad we picked it over the few slighly cheaper options and I wouldn't pick any other boat over this one. Overall, it was such a beautiful and peaceful trip, and I'd highly recommend Big Blue/the Gaya Baru Indah for anyone looking for a liveaboard in Raja Ampat.

Exceptional liveaboard with outstanding value for money

Experienced a fantastic and extraordinary liveaboard. The boat is spacious and yet designed for only 8 guests and therefore offers plenty of space to relax between dives and in the evening. The cabins are air-conditioned and offer enough space. The crew is very friendly and helpful. On our trip, there were 10 employees on board and thus an exceptional student-to-student ratio. The food is prepared by 2 chefs and is always rich, fresh, varied and very tasty. The dive guides have a lot of experience and knowledge of the individual dive sites, as well as a good eye to discover many different, even the smallest animals. The selected route and divesites are varied and offer versatile experiences and impressions of the beautiful Raja Ampat. In addition to the diving program, additional shore excursions were also offered.

Great 7 day dive trip in Raja Ampat

This boat is good value for money and it’s facilities are as advertised, which is why we picked it. It’s not luxurious but the food is really good and I personally enjoyed the charm of how the boat was laid out and operated. The boat and dive operations are highly professional, safe and on time. German precision at its best. The boat only takes 8 guests total which made it an awesome intimate and personalised experience much preferred to going with 14+ guests.
