Highlights

  • Both naturalist & diving itineraries are available, offering the best of both worlds
  • Diving itineraries visit the iconic Wolf & Darwin dive sites

The M/Y Aqua liveaboard in the Galapagos offers the choice of 7-night diving itineraries or 3, 4 or 5-night naturalist itineraries. Nine cabins spread over 3 decks cater to 16 guests onboard and a choice of twin or matrimonial bedding. Each room features a private en-suite bathroom, individually controlled air-conditioning, and storage space. Main and upper deck cabins also have picture windows to offer sea views. Social areas dotted around the yacht include a shaded outside lounge, sun deck, indoor lounge, and library and dining area. The cuisine served on board combines local Ecuadorian and international cuisine.

A wide range of activities is included in all itineraries, giving guests a chance to get up close and experience the unique wildlife of the Galapagos Islands. Naturalist cruises include guided hikes, bird-watching, and incredible photography opportunities. Divers will be blown away by the amazing marine biodiversity, with the chance to see whale sharks, schooling hammerheads, and even Mola Mola. A spacious dive deck has plenty of room for kitting up and gear storage. Two diving tenders make diving from the MY Aqua a comfortable experience, and enriched air nitrox is available for those certified. Divers will also receive a personal marine rescue GPS, a storm whistle, a diving beacon, and a surface marker tube for added safety and peace of mind.

Note: 50 logged dives is the minimum required experience for the Aqua, due to the more advanced conditions of certain dive sites.

An affordable Galapagos liveaboard

Galapagos liveaboards tend to be quite expensive, even when certain trips go on sale. Aqua, however, is more reasonably-priced, even when it is not on sale. So getting this trip on sale made my goal of diving the Galapagos even more financially viable. Of course, sometimes you get what you pay for. This affordable Galapagos liveaboard definitely cuts corners compared to my liveaboard experiences in other destinations. These were nonetheless mostly manageable sacrifices that I could live with, like paying extra for soft drinks. My main gripe was with the guides and the timing and execution of dives. As I understand it, most Galápagos liveaboard use freelancers that rotate amongst the various boats, so what I have to say may not apply to your future trips on this boat. The guides kept dives far shorter than necessary in the name of safety, even though we could have safely remained at depth within the NDLs for much longer. They also had a tendency to lead us out into the open blue water in fruitless searches for schools of hammerheads. Most of the hammerheads that we saw were in smaller groups closer to the reef; we would have been better off staying there.

Hammerheads everywhere

The rental gear was great, it was the nicest wetsuit I'd ever used, we were plenty warm. The crew was great, the people who went on this boat were a blast and the animals we saw under water were unforgettable. Soooooo many hammerheads!

One of the best diving destination

Aqua boat is a mid range boat buy it's quite comfortable and the staff is nice and helpful. The Hammerhead sharks were fantastic but the diving is not easy because of currents and the cold water.

Destination was great but not very pleasant experience

The dive sites are great, remote places naturally have beautiful marine life. Chef was wonderful, all meals were delicious. Diving would be more enjoyable if it wasn’t rushed all the times. Ascent was pretty abrupt and one diver eventually got DCS. And dive guides didn’t pay much attention to divers when we tried to get their attention on low air. Some last minute situations happened. Basically the dive guides caused some stress which made the diving experience less enjoyable.

An incredible week full of wonderful diving

Wow! What a week! The crew is doing everything to make the best stay for everyone on board. I loved the hot showers right at the dive area on the boat and the fresh towels after each dive! :) There were plenty of vegan and vegetarian food options and snacks after each dive. The food was delicious! The diving gear was professional, everything worked well. The guiding under water was always amazing! I loved every single dive!! But make sure to know how to dive in these strong conditions before going on a boat around Galapagos ;) The cabins were cleaned every day. As I said, the crew is the best!! Each cabin has its own bathroom with shower and toilet. Thank you for a wonderful week and see you someday in the future :) Muchas gracias amigos!

Great price/value liveaboard

Very comfortable liveaboard with great itinerary. The dive guides were excellent as well as organization of the diving itself (including gear preparation, transportation to the dive sites etc.). Cabins are well maintained and comfortable, food was outstanding. Overall very good value for money.
