Highlights
The Sachika liveaboard, by Top Class Cruising, is a 33-meter/108-feet custom-built liveaboard that has been Awarded the “Best Dive Safari Boat’’by the National Boating Association of the Maldives for two editions. The Sachika has 10 cabins, including 3 suites, 1 junior suite, 4 standard double or twin cabins, and 2 twin cabins, catering to 22 guests. Each cabin has an air conditioner, en-suite bathroom, mini-bar, and private entertainment hubs. The sundeck with its jacuzzi is perfect for relaxation between dives and stargazing at night. Meals are served in the A/C restaurant, and guests can sip on some tasty cocktails while lounging on the aft deck. The trailing dhoni (a traditional Maldivian vessel) is used for diving and keeping all the tanks and compressors separate so travelers can sleep. A full snorkeling itinerary for non-divers includes activities like fishing, beach visits, and treks.
Aboard the Sachika, guests will cruise through central and deep south atolls and dive at Male Atolls, Rasdhoo, Meemu, and Ari Atolls. The cruise sets out to the south with the exploration of a trawler that sank three decades ago and became a home for the local needlefish and scorpionfish. In the western part of the atoll, it is easy to meet manta rays coming close to the reef to enjoy the many cleaning stations. The sea is rich in marine life and is full of whale sharks, scorpion fish, glassfish, reef sharks, Napoleon wrasse, green turtles, beautiful corals, dolphins, and more.

Awesome tour of Maldivian central atolls
Great views of the animals despite limited visibility, almost horizontal rain, strong wind and occasionally leaking ship.

First liveaboard experience and Sachika was awesome
The dive guides were amazing. Martina was my guide and she is just the very best. Good dive sites. Saw a lot of rays and sharks. I m vegetarian and food was never a problem. Visited during covid times and the crew ensured that we didn't have to worry about safety.

Best boat for divers
The philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau wrote that in human nature there are two kinds of love in each of us: “Amour de soi” and “Amour propre” and this extends to the type of divers who go on liveaboards. For some, it's the quality of the boat, the priority is a luxury accomodation experience. For others it's all about the diving. If you are in the latter group then the Sahika is the best experience you could hope for. This review is for my trip to the "deep south", a 12-day one-way trip 700 nautical miles from Male to Addu in December 2025. In so many regards the quality on board the Sahika is of the highest standard. Safety, the choice of dive sites, the experience and professionalism of the dive guides, the impressive leadership of Top Class' General Manager Martina who led all the training dives, the boat manager Luigi (a highly experienced tech diver and consummate dive guide) as well as the detailed dive briefings. I have been on other liveaboards in the Maldives and both safety and the quality of the dives were concerning and disappointing and this makes the Sahika all the more compelling, if you value safety and competence over a superficial desire for a luxury yacht. This is not to say that there is anything wrong with the Sahika. The cabins are meticulously cleaned, the food is great, the beds and pillows comfortable, and the crew are very friendly and accommodating. The bar has a faulty happy hour which is excellent at getting people together at the end of the day and beach BBQs and breaks were done very well. We saw everything on our list; loads of tiger sharks (that you could reach out and touch ,[we didn't!]) massive bull sharks with a retinue of Ramora, huge jellyfish, manta rays, schools of dozens of grey reef sharks, schools of leopard rays, dolphins (fleetingly under water, but several times at the bow of the boat). More turtles than my GoPro could film and on and on. I think that says it all. :)

Perfect way to experience the Maldives
This was the southern atoll trip, which is more challenging with very strong currents. We were able to be in deep open blue water with many large pelagic...non-stop! Oceanic sharks, mantas, whale sharks. The crew was excellent and a big help in the challenging conditions but the dives were totally awesome. Sachika is an amazing boat, with plenty of space, and the rooms were excellent. There is a dongi that follows the boat, so all dive gear is kept on that boat, which makes more room on the main boat. Food was always well prepared, varied, and great tasting. I was eating gluten free and had no problem with all of the choices for every meal. I would highly recommend this boat and would return to the Maldives for the northern atolls next time to be able to see those as well.
