“Great dives made even better by excellent guides and the best crew.”
Highlights
The 23m MV Marco Polo Liveaboard offers 3/2, 4/4, and 6/7 day/night dive trips to the Similans, Surin, and Richelieu Rock from November to April. The boat has 6 air-conditioned double cabins with ensuite bathrooms, catering to 12 guests. All cabins open to the outer deck to give guests the full benefit of the cool sea breeze. There are only 3 dive groups on board, guaranteeing excellent service, stress-free set-ups, and fewer divers on the dive sites.
After dives, the Party deck offers plenty of room to enjoy meals and relax in a shaded space. The spacious indoor salon with TV and music station lets guests view underwater footage or listen to music. This is also where all the freshly cooked meals will be served - a mix of international and Thai cuisine prepared by an experienced Thai cook. Upstairs, guests will find the cozy Sundeck, where they can enjoy their time between the dives and the sunset after the last dive of the day.
Diving takes place at the best dive sites in the Similan Islands, at Koh Bon, Koh Tachai, and Richelieu Rock. With only 12 divers on board, the Marco Polo is very flexible and can schedule more advanced dive sites for the more experienced divers on board, while others may prefer more relaxed dive sites. The Plateau and its nearby Pinnacle at Koh Tachai and Koh Bon’s Pinnacle and The Ridge are close to the fantastic Richelieu Rock and are solid components of the Marco Polo's dive schedule. In the Similans, the best dive sites are picked depending on the weather, drift, and traffic to avoid dive sites getting too busy.

A perfect getaway
It was always looked at first how many other boats were on site at the time and what the diving conditions were. Then it was decided in which order to proceed. As a result, it was not too crowded anywhere. The safety aspect was always in the foreground and you felt in good hands. The diving landscape at the Similans is fantastic anyway, if you go there, everything is right.

For anyone who looks for quiet enjoyment
Very pleasant and relaxed trip. Very much enjoyed being taken care of by the crew, boat captain did fantastic job assessing weather and timing with other boats so we managed to avoid overcrowding under water.

Wonderful dive experiences with friendly crews
I had an incredible experience with 15 spectacular dives over 4 nights, supported by an amazing crew! The carefully selected dive sites far exceeded my expectations. Richeliue Rock and the Boonsung Wreck are truly unforgettable dive spots—you won't be disappointed. A big shoutout to the fantastic dive masters, Chris, Mike, and Cheng! They are incredibly knowledgeable and approachable, making each dive a unique and enjoyable experience. I also loved the endless supply of delicious Thai food and fresh fruits provided between dives—it was the perfect way to recharge. I’m completely satisfied with both the dives and the onboard service. Highly recommended!

Marco Polo exceeds expectations
My overall experience was nearly perfect. The crew, the food, and the boat itself have to be to be one of the best options in Thailand. Experienced dive masters and the small dive groups made this one of the best trips I’ve had on a liveaboard.

Amazing guides, disappointing organization
I would like to start by highlighting the dive guides, Paula and David, who were truly exceptional friendly, approachable, and among the nicest professionals I have encountered across many liveaboard experiences. The food was acceptable, though fairly standard and not particularly memorable. However, there are several areas where the overall experience could be improved. From a technical standpoint, the setup felt quite basic compared to other liveaboards. For instance, the absence of something as simple as a projector was surprising. On some occasions, we were required to hold onto a rope attached to a zodiac that would tow us back to the main boat. This method felt rather rudimentary and raised safety concerns, as it could potentially lead to accidents if not handled carefully. In terms of organization, there is significant room for improvement. While I appreciate the strong emphasis on safety, its implementation at times negatively impacted the diving experience. The policy of ending a dive when the first diver reaches 70 bars, regardless of the group’s overall level, resulted in consistently shortened dives. In my case, I was placed in a group with a beginner diver (who was completing their AOWD, so naturally still developing skills), which meant surfacing with more than half a tank remaining and losing around 20 minutes of dive time on each immersion. A more thoughtful grouping of divers according to experience level would greatly enhance both safety and enjoyment for everyone involved. Additionally, the entry procedures could be better managed. On several occasions, large groups entered the water simultaneously and had to hold onto a buoy due to strong currents. This created unnecessarily chaotic situations if the current is hard in surface. Standard practice on many liveaboards is to organize smaller groups, typically around four divers to ensure smoother, safer, and more controlled operations. In summary, while the crew’s friendliness and commitment to safety are commendable, improvements in organization, logistics, and overall planning would significantly elevate the experience

100% worth it
Richeliu is a top 10 in the world for diving, 3 dives there are worth the whole trip, the weather didn't help much and I recommend you to check your equipment before setting sail because I struggled with the size of the fins and the vest

The Similan and Surin National Parks trips aboard the Marco Polo is a can’t miss trip.
This was my second time aboard the Marco Polo and I’m a repeat guest from last year for good reason. The diving in Thailand is amazing and I can’t get enough of Similan and Surin National Parks. The Scuba here is world class, and the meals between dives are delicious. Dave was our dive guide for this trip and was a lot of fun to be in the water with. He did a great job of communicating, pointing out marine life, and keeping the group safe.

The Similan and Surin National Parks trips aboard the Marco Polo is something you have to experience at least once.
This was my third time aboard the Marco Polo and I’m a repeat guest from last year for good reason. The diving in Thailand is amazing and I can’t get enough of Similan and Surin National Parks. The meals between dives are probably the best of any Liveaboard in Thailand.
