My trip to Male and to the Maldives was a "lifetime experience"!
Seeing the whale sharks, and the manta rays! Those were the two reasons that I booked the trip. The city tour to Male was a "bonus" - something that gave me a good cultural experience, and a way to see how other people in the world actually live.

- 1. The diving was phenomenal! 2. The crew, service, and food was great! 3. The new friendships that I made with all of the other divers on the trip. We have all exchanged emails.
Wonderful experience diving!
The dive masters did a great job at finding us good dive sites and plans for the conditions. Maldives is known for crystal clear water, which isn't what we had, but we were able to get some incredible dives in anyway. The guides did a great job managing a group with varying skills, languages, interests, and attitudes. We saw manta rays, sharks, many turtles, fish, and so much more. An unforgettable trip! The crew made a good effort to make Christmas and New Years special while we were on the boat. Thank you Leo crew!

Diving was a little different than what I expected.
The mantas were amazing. Huge nurse sharks at the jetty dive.

- The crew is very service oriented. Excellent dive briefings. Cabins are nice sized without bunk beds!
Great crew and channel dives but would have liked a bit more variety.
The channel dives were great for seeing sharks and big schools of fish. The boat itself is clean and comfortable, though the below-deck rooms are kind of humid. Great crew and guides, just would have liked a bit more variety in the site selection. Corals are just so-so.

One of, if not the best, dive trips I've taken.
I arrived at the Male airport around 730 AM and waited for the ride to the Leo, as expected. There was a short boat ride to the Leo from the airport. During the trip to the Leo, we were instructed to remove our SCUBA equipment from our luggage and set it up. Upon arrival to the Leo, we were given liquid refreshments along with a short briefing followed by paperwork / documentation verification and cabin assignments. Every evening we were provided times for the next morning's wake-up call, briefing, and departure times to start the dive. Along with this, the information was provided in writing on a white board in the galley/common room. The process and procedures for the briefings and times are well coordinated and thought out. The dive site briefings were as thorough as could be and included options based on water current conditions and directions. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. They did a very good job at watching the divers and making sure everyone had the best experience possible, to include matching divers based on air consumption rates and certification levels. The boat crew was phenomenal to say the least. They have the process down to a science and never missed a beat. The meals were delicious and well prepared. The boat, including our cabins, was kept clean. Any maintenance issues that popped up were handled immediately. Now for the actual diving. I was not expecting the currents in Maldives and it took some getting used to. Also, I had some weight issues, as the salinity in the Maldives is a lot less than any place I had previously been. Once I got lined out, I was good to go. For most of the dives, visibility was pretty good, 10 to 20 meters on the low side. Pelagics on every dive, with loads of reef and nurse sharks, several whale sharks and manta rays. One of the best dives of my life was at a site called Fish Head. It's a dive with nurse sharks. There were 20 to 25 of them on one dive and they acted like a cross between dolphins and puppies. The closest thing I can say as a negative is there could have been a couple of additional dives. There was only one night dive during the week. Safety is always a top priority. Reminders about No Deco limits are given before every dive. Most of the dives are between 20 and 30 meters. Everyone dives on nitrox and is required to have reef hooks and dive computers. Divers sign or initial a nitrox log before the dive and provides dive depth, time, and pressure remaining at the end of the dive as a means of accountability. So all divers are logged in and out of the water. I have been in the Caribbean, Persian Gulf, Mediterranean and Red Seas. This trip is one of the best experiences I have had in over 300 dives. It is well worth going and I look forward to going again.

- The three best things about the trip were the staff/crew, the accommodations, and the aquatic life.
Best diving experience I could hope for during rainy season.
We got to enjoy diving with mantas, whale sharks and plenty of other species of sharks. The sunset dive with the nurse sharks will be hard to top when it comes to nurse shark encounters.

Excellently organized and fun liveaboard
Great crew and surprisingly delicious and varied food (though some of it tended to run out...not sure if that was the boat's fault or some of the guests on board...). Overall great experience, saw mind-blowing dive sites and safety was very important to the boat manager and guides. Would definitely recommend this liveaboard to others.

No AC in cabin, entries were chaotic.
NO AC in cabin, Couldnt sleep for two full nights because of the heat. My bed was literally wet from the humidity in the room. Drop points were routinely missed due to chaotic and poorly coordinated entries. Donghi generator didnt work for the entire trip, meaning they had to tether to the main boat to fill tanks. This kept us from leaving Gan for a full day and delayed getting to the better dive spots, limiting the dives we could do at the best spots and making every day a schedule nightmare. Cant complain about the food or service, both were very good. However, I would not recommend Emperor Leo. Find a newer, better maintained operation.

Tremendous experience and service
Manta feeding station visits, nurse shark domain visit, night dive(!), camaraderie between crew, relaxed atmosphere between divers, international nature of group yet mutual respect and no boorish behavior at all, super and generous meals, packed d’living (3-4/day), different atolls visited (4) in 1 week. Cabins were very good not luxury. Evenings were fun. There was one shore visit but curtailed by rain. I would say overall I could do this again and again (as one of my colleagues has) and stick with Emperor and it’s fleet.

Snorkeling in Maldives
It was a great trip for me to relax on. Not being able to dive due to a fractured eardrum snorkeling is what I always do on liveaboards and I always make sure that it is snorkelilng friendly. The first 2,5 days were not snorkeling friendly, nothing to see for a snorkeler and my mood was getting a bit down as all of the divers were seeing everything and it is not a cheap experience either. BUT then Maldives opened up even for me. The big Mantas, black tips, devil rays, whale shark, Mauri wrasses and especially the night dive experience was an extra ordinary experience as in Australia I was not allowed to jump in during the night. So all in all it was a GREAT experience..

Great experience. The service was very good. Equipment was good en reliable. Guides where very friendly, patient and secure. Food was good and had good variety. Surpassed our expectations - best holiday yet!
The highlights were all related to the diving, which was really incredible. We saw grey and white tip sharks, nurse sharks, manta ray, turtles, hundreds of moray eels (go to the fish factory dive near Male!), thousands of beautiful fish, octopus, whale sharks etc etc etc. The Dhoni is really comfortable and the refiller tanks are on here, so it's less noisy when on the main boat. The dhoni staff are awesome too! The main boat is really comfortable, with loads of space to chill in the lounge, and huge bean bags and a shaded area on the top sun deck. There is a separate place for smokers, which I appreciated. The cabins in the lower deck are really nice with a massive en suite shower and really comfortable bed. The upper deck cabins have more light, but I don't think the extra cost is really worth it since you don't spend much time at all in the cabin. The food was excellent on the first night, and dropped to average the rest of the nights. Still good, but not quite as good as the first night. There was always lots of food and a good variety, which is nice, but get there fast as it goes cold quickly. The dive instructors were very knowledgeable and friendly. We had excellent briefs before each dive. We had a slight issue with our instructor - I had signalled to him that I was not ok while on a dive, and was ignored. This significantly diminished my trust in him, which made me feel a little exposed and vulnerable in the water because I knew that if anything went wrong, I couldn't turn to him for help or guidance. He was often grumpy and impatient when we asked questions, which was unexpected and made us feel a little unwelcome. However, it wasn't a massive deal, and I still absolutely loved the holiday (the best one yet by far). Other than that, this was an incredible trip, and I would 100% recommend Leo and the Maldives!

Awesome diving experience with superb dive guides.
Gabriel and Maria were our dive guides for the trip who have many years experience. For them it is not just a job, it is a passion and that comes across very clearly. We saw everything we hoped to see...Mantas, eagle rays, tons of sharks including a great night dive surrounded by sharks. A whaleshark was also spotted just before he disappeared into the depths. Although we were booked on Leo boat we all were upgraded to Orion due to technical issues on Leo. All changed over in the blink of an eye and no inconvenience to anyone. Diving from a Dhoni is an added luxury to the experience as all dive gear remains on the Dhoni all week and the crew fill tanks whilst you are enjoying the plentiful food aboard the boat. We will definately use Emporer fleet again. An awesome week!

It's been an amazing trip... rooms big and comfy, delicious food, friendly and helpful staff, bar and sun deck to relax and chat. All dive masters were friendly and did a great job showing us amazing diving spots. They even managed to arrange spontaneously everything so I could get my advanced open water course. The two night dives with sharks and rays and even mantas were two of my highlights. Having a BBQ at a local island and walk along the beach was a nice break from being on the boat. In the other evenings I also enjoyed sitting in the bar area to chat to everyone or lying on the sun deck to watch the stars.

Emperor Leo is not the best boat, my room was extremely small, no space, shower was always super cold, sink did not work properly plus flashing the toilet was also a big challenge. It was just amazing! I can 100% recommend Emperor Leo! We had everyday 3 dives and 1 day a night dive, we were super lucky and had very good conditions.. the crew was super friendly and took so good care of us. We can see that they do all with love. You think about sth and there is someone there for you. The diving in Malediven was really the best of my life. We had so much luck with Manta Ray in the station and feeding, on the night dive we also went snorkelling with them. Other than that the fish life is so rich in all the diving sites, beautiful soft coral, lovely for macro life.. so so many sharks.. just amazing. We were blessed with amazing weather, great visibility and minimal currents. The abundance of fish took our breaths away! The guides were wonderful and we enjoyed every single dive. They were very helpful and friendly, and we definitely had some interesting conversations during the trip. The dive guides also went beyond when we faced some technical issues with our own personal gear -despite some malfunctions, thanks to them, all dives went on smoothly! It is worthy to note that they even gave a mini "lecture" on manta rays. It was very educational and helped us recreational divers understand marine life a little better. All LOBs should have something like that! The boat could do with a little upgrading/ refurnishing, but all in, this was a 5-star trip!

Great diving, huge diversity of marine animals, unforgettable experience
The information regarding the dive sites was super.... allowing you to decide whether to dive or not. The diving guides were friendly & helpful. The staff were also friendly & helpful nothing was too hard making it a most easy, relaxed diving holiday. Would highly recommend this to give you a taste of the rich marine marine life of the Maldives. We'll be back!!!
