Good value for money, great food
We were moved to the Amelia's sister boat, Samira, though from what I can tell the crew and the boats are nearly identical. The crew is very friendly and the boat is clean, if a bit sparse. For this price point the dive safari met my expectations, with safe diving and a friendly crew. The food exceeded expectations; mostly western fare but produced with care and enough variety throughout the week. The dive deck was a bit cramped with a full boat and there are no showers for rinsing off after diving. Only real complaint was that our dive group (there were two divemasters and guests were roughly divided between them based on experience), including a few newer divers, had our dives managed a bit too closely by the dive staff for my liking. I understand being concerned with safety but having my air checked five times a dive and being encouraged to stay unnecessarily close with the rest of the group made some dives feel rushed or forced. Overall good value for money though, and a friendly boat crew.

Friendly, fun, fantastic
Getting to the remote locations was exceptional and a great way to experience the Red Sea. The whole crew was fun and friendly, while still maintaining a professional and safe demeanor. Our dive guides were AMAZING! Knowledgeable with a great eye for spotting critters. They also split our group into two with similar diving experiences, so everyone felt comfortable and with the right level of guidance.

Amazing week on the Red Sea
We booked this trip never having been to the Red Sea before based on the value, itinerary, and the dates. We got on the boat in Hurghada and went north (also Brothers). From the second we boarded the boat, we felt welcomed by the crew. Our cabin was well appointed- we had 2 single beds and a private shower/toilet. There were closet/shelves to store our clothing and gear and the A/C worked very well. They had warm blankets on the beds to keep warm at night when chilly. The only thing I would say was that a mat outside the shower/toilet room door would have been nice since I was slippery with wet feet- we used and extra towel and that worked perfectly. The dive deck was set up perfectly- our wetsuits would hang up between dives, there was a crate for the rest of our gear so nothing got lost. I have a medium sized UW camera setup and though there was no designated place for it on the dive deck, the crew always made sure it was in a safe place. The crew was SO helpful and attentive- helping me get my wetsuits zipped up, to helping me get my gear on, to putting my fins on, and then helping me after the dive, it was great. The dive guides were amazing and the dive briefings were very helpful. I felt very safe in the water, even on the unguided dives. We had 19 dives including 3 night dives, a drift dive, several wreck dives, and tons of wall dives. Last but not least, the food and service. It was superb. The food was top notch (I highly recommend crepes and Nutella at breakfast) and there was always something for everyone. My travel buddy had her birthday the week were out on the Red Sea and they decorated and made a cake for her- truly special. I will warn coffee drinkers that all we had was NesCafe but it wasn’t the worst and it made a real cup of coffee when we were back on dry land that much better. I would hands down return to the Amelia Discovery again- in fact I cannot wait to go back and enjoy another week on the boat with an amazing crew!

I thoroughly enjoyed my week on the the Amelia.
We were very lucky during our dive on the south side of Elphinstone. Sharks and Dolpins in one dive. This more than made up for the north side and some of the other relatively mundane dive sites. In general if you like diving on reefs with coral gardens / pinnacles or through cave systems that are open to light above then this is the trip for you. The deep south tour is not something you should take if you are more interested in just seeing some sharks.

A great dive trip, in a very small cabin
The Deep South tour was wonderful for me, because after some nasty experiences with sharks in the north, I prefer the lovely southern reefs. The dive and boat crew were very good and always helpful, the international guests made it interesting, but the cabins were very small with limited storage and no separate shower in the bathroom, so everything would get wet. I had a cabin to myself, so it was not so bad, and I mostly showered on deck when possible, but it would have been very uncomfortable with a 2 people in the cabin, especially 2 strangers. The ship was small and already crowded although we were only 14 people. With a full ship, it would have been hard to find seating in the shade on deck. The food was plentiful, but not outstanding, and deserts were luckily not very appealing. All in all a good week, but I found the ship a bit small and uncomfortable for the price.

- The staff, the diving, the timing
Certainly not the best
Very few highlights as each dive site was so crowded with other divers. The highlight was leaving the boat and flying home. Food was mediocre as was service. Numerous times my cylinders were underfilled and constant having to ask for toilet paper for the cabin. Many inexperienced divers leading to a very unpleasant dive experience with them constantly coming back in floods of tears. This is my 3rd live aboard on the red sea and my last.

Bad weather so only boring spots. Crew was great.
There was strong wind so we were not able to go to deadalus or elphinstone (main reason for all guests to book this tour) we ended up only diving at similar reefs near the shore which was ver disappointing. The crew and the guides were great, the food was good so under different circumstances it would have been a good trip.

Good memories
Beautiful diving spots except the last one (if you need to skip it for your flight, it is no problem, it is close to harbor with no visibility and no fishes) ! One of the dive master tended to focus the briefings only on danger underwater and this could be a bit stressful especially if you didn't dive for a long time. Take cash money with you because you can not pay fees and extra by card. The first night is in the harbor as well as the last one. If you rent the equipment, it is ok except the torch which didn't work very well.

Safety concerns!
Safety issues/concerns: 1. No dive qualifications were required e.g. min. # of dives or AOWD certification. The itinerary consists of primarily deep dives with strong currents so is not suitable for dive beginners! As an experienced diver I didn't have any issues, however we had quite a few inexperienced divers on board. One diver had only 10 dives logged and was really struggling! He signed up to do the AOWD certification on board, so was diving up to 40m without proper experience. At the same time the guide had to manage a large group of divers and clearly could not give much attention to students. This is a huge safety concern! For this itinerary the requirement of AOWD level should be standard. In case the operator is offering certifications on board, they need to ensure to have enough staff to handle the course work as well as specific dives for students. 2. Bad air: on one dive the compressed air was polluted, the whole group was experiencing throat ache and severe headaches after the dive. 3. Only 2 dive guides on the boot, therefore the number of divers per guide is too large for this itinerary with primarily deep dives and strong currents. Particularly if you had beginners on board with very few dives logged.

Rough sea, guides need to up the energy
Disappointments: The rough sea and long night journeys, sea sickness isn’t fun and stops you from diving Would Recomend you are an experienced diver, more than 40 dives. Inexperienced divers are not catered for if you only have open water this trip is not for you Dive guides need more energy, should point out more stuff underwater and less clients per guide, 8 is too many The extras can add up if you need scuba gear especially the recommended tips for the guides & crew Highlights: The boat is kept well, very clean The boat crew are helpful, good fun and always smiling The food was lovely a quite varied The added night dive was spectacular

Great food and staff
Had a great time on Amelia Discovery! The food was incredible and all crew members very friendly, dive sights were beautiful and great range of wreck, wall, and reef dives. We took our AOW on the boat and dive masters were very attentive for this based on my level. We did find at times in the dining area/lower cabins there was a diesel smell but as this was my first liveaboard I don't know if this is typical. Overall a wonderful experience!! Highly recommend

Nice live aboard.
Some of the dives are not the easiest (currents) so probably better if you already have some experience. Really nice boat. The cabins above the engine do get noisy. The food was good but a bit bland. Nice crew, sometimes a bit too eager to help when you just want to manage your gear yourself. Had a really good week overall & would recommend!

Had a really good group with excellent staff. Diving was enjoyable with some good marine sightings but evidence numbers are sadly depleting. Boat overall was nice although cabin tired, very noisy above engine and in need of some repair.

Brother’s, Daedalus, Elphinstone tour
Did a one weeks liveaboard on Amelia discovery. Had some great diving in the south of the Red Sea. The boat isn’t the most luxurious that I’ve been on, but it’s more than adequate for a good weeks diving. The crew were all really nice and the food was good. Aly was my dive guide for the week and made the trip highly enjoyable. Would definitely use discovery divers again!
