Budget diving - you get what you pay for

One dive group with fun DM had a blast and went home with lots of pics their DM took - that was nice but not standard across all dive groups. Dive deck is exceptionally crowded with no room to even don wetsuit. Tanks are smashed together making it uncomfortable to gear up. Looks like boat holds up to 30 divers and it felt crowded with 19. Dive briefings were great. Crew was into taking pics of guests on boat, but they use some sort of AI or distorting filters so you don't actually look like yourself. I appreciated the effort to remove wrinkles, but I earned them! The forward cabin was awkward and bathroom very small - the shower area ~2.5x2.5 feet I believe. I saw other cabins had more normal WET shower bathrooms. The AC only worked at night and seemed to constantly struggle. The boat was hot.

Awful

What was supposed to be the highlight of our trip turned into the worst 4 days we’ve had in a loooooong time. The engine and generator were so loud that the whole cabin roared and vibrated, so a) it was impossible to sleep, and b) we had zero private time the entire trip. We ‘slept’ on the top deck, which was also noisy (inc staff alarms at 3.35am), cold, windy, and generally uncomfortable. We were sleep-deprived and exhausted the whole trip, and we both got sick. The diving was mostly dull; in the first seven dives we saw collectively less of note than in a single dive off Koh Lanta. Our first ‘guide’ was a nice guy, but made no effort to spot things; in 10 dives he literally pointed twice, once at some lobsters who live permanently under a certain rock, and once at two barracuda we were already looking at. In 30 years of diving I’ve never even imagined a dive ‘guide’ could do so little or make so little effort. Our second guide is about the rudest, most ignorant human I’ve yet met; after two dives we refused to go with him again. I didn’t even bother with the last two dives, which is a first. They still tried to charge for equipment for the last day, and also blamed me for their credit card machine not working (after it also failed another guest’s card they reset it, and surprise surprise it worked fine). A typical example of their ’organisation’: They asked us to be up at 5.30am and ready to dive at 6, so as to a) avoid the crowds and b) have an extra ‘night dive.’ After following this instruction we were kept sitting around cold and tired in full kit for 45 minutes before eventually entering the water at 6.45, with a) crowds and b) daylight. The cabin had cockroaches, the sheets and duvets are too short for a human body, some weird sawdust stuff appeared on the bed every day, and the wifi is so useless that it didn’t even work well at the pier. The Thai boat staff are Lovely and work incredibly hard, and the same goes for Jumbo, but this trip was a total shambles and a complete waste of money.

Amazing

This was the first time we did a LiveABoard, and it was amazing. We had amazing guide: Jannes who dives with us all days. The FOOD WAS REALLY THE BEST OF THE BEST! Thanks girls for the amazing food, it was Perfect. We had a double bed Cabin, that was good comfort, and we loved everything from it. Big thanks to Mark, he arranged everything amazing. Kind regards, Jante and Niek
