The 24m MY Merit liveaboard caters to just 16 guests in 7 cabins and living space is spread over the main and upper deck. 4 Master Cabins are located on the main deck, each with double or twin beds, individually controlled AC, fan and private en-suite bathroom, and there is also one Standard Cabin which has a fan and shared bathroom and can accommodate up to 4 guests if required. Located on the upper deck there are two Superior Cabins which have ocean views through large opening windows, shared AC and shared bathrooms and double or twin beds. Also located on the upper deck is the open air lounge and dining area, a great place to relax in between dives, enjoy the sea breeze and catch up with your dive buddy. There is a large dining table at the centre of the deck which can easily accommodate up to 20 people, and is where breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks in between dives will be served. In front of the wheelhouse is a small sun deck, perfect for catching some rays or enjoying the night sky.

The M/Y Merit liveaboard offers dive and snorkel trips in both Thailand and Myanmar. Thailand itineraries visit some of the best dive destinations in the Andaman Sea, including the Similan Islands, Richelieu Rock, Surin National Park, and the southern areas of Hin Daeng and Hin Muang. Dive trips in Myanmar explore the Mergui Archipelago, only recently opened up for diving and also the northern remote area of Black Rock. Diving takes place from the large dive deck located at the back of the boat, which can easily accommodate up to 20 divers.

boat left a day late, no nitrox, but nice dives

Cons: No nitrox, contrary to what was advertised. (Our dive guide said there hasn't been nitrox for the two years he's worked on the boat.) Our trip started a day and a half later than scheduled because the boat needed some work and they hadn't left a day of slack between trips to handle this. Also we weren't informed of this until the scheduled departure time, even though the owner Frank knew at least a day earlier. He did say we'd be refunded for the lost day, which hasn't happened yet, but hopefully will soon. The boat didn't have enough flashlights for all the guests. Luckily, we brought our own, and perhaps by now they've purchased more, but I mention it as an example of the overall sloppiness of the operation. Our toilet leaked sea water onto the bathroom floor for most of the trip, but that really wasn't a big deal because that's also the shower floor, and the toilet worked fine. Some dives had a medium to strong current and these aren't drift dives -- you will need to work for a few minutes. It's no big deal if you're in good shape but something to keep in mind. One morning our captain didn't wake up when he was supposed to, so the boat reached the first site for the day later than intended. Pros: Mergui diving was quite nice, especially the more northern part of the trip where the visibility was better. We saw many schools of small fish, lots of nudibranchs, manta rays, and all kinds of things. Many dives had interesting underwater topography too -- swim throughs, walls, large boulders, etc. You probably won't see any other dive boats in Mergui! Our dive guide was nice and made our trip relaxing. The overall mood on the boat was positive. The food was great, especially the Thai curries. Nothing fancy, just standard western breakfasts and basic Thai dishes for lunch and dinner. Delicious. Our bed was clean and comfortable. Four dives a day!
