You get what you pay for

This review is of a 4D/N trip on the MV Camic, April 2024. Before you read any further, if you have a problem with small roaches on the boat, stop reading now and finds another boat. First, the good: • Food was excellent, however there were no desserts (cakes, pies, pastries, etc.) • AC in the room worked well. No other AC on the boat. • The rental equipment was good although several divers had the tank slide out of their BCD during the dive. • The crew was very helpful. • Cold beer is available for 70 THB. • The ensuite is a wet bath with plenty of hot water. • The dive briefings covered all the essentials without being boring. • The crew rinses and hangs your skins/wetsuit after each dive. • Good ice machine. • The hotel pickup and dropoff service was very good. Now, the not so good: • The boat is relatively clean, but looks tired. Needs some cosmetic work. • No place to store your luggage. I shared my bunk with my suitcase. • The bottom bunk is literally on the floor. If you have difficulty getting up and down, this may be a problem. The mattress is thin and not comfortable. Provided a nice pillow and blanket. • Your given one towel for the trip. • After the dive briefing, the first group has about 10 minutes before entering the water or inflatable raft. No time for another cup of coffee or even a bathroom visit. Seemed very rushed to me. I’m older so I naturally move a little slower but mistakes are made when being rushed. If you like moving slow, ask to be assigned to the second group. • On the 5 previous liveaboard trips I’ve taken, there was always a time of introducing the crew and guests. Not on this trip; I never saw the Captain. • The upper deck is partially-covered, but there are no chairs. There are foam mats on the floor which is where some of the crewmembers sleep at night. The only place to sit on the boat is in the dining area. There is an old adage that you get what you pay for. This is certainly applicable to the Camic. It is a good trip for the budget-minded but manage your expectations and you won’t be disappointed.

Great diving, great food!

The diving was excellent. Richelieu rock is a very special place! But all of the dives were good. Just note that you'll dive some of the sites multiple times, which won't be for everyone. Pan was a great guide, and it was nice to be with people with similar air consumption. The staff are vey friendly and the food is fantastic (assuming you like Thai food) — the best of any of the five liveaboards I've been on. The only negatives really relate to the boat itself. The dining setup is weird — rather than having one big area where everyone sits together, there are lots of small tables, so people can be siloed, which isn't ideal. There's also no indoor communal space, although this wasn't really a problem as it was quite a short trip. The cabins each have AC and have beds with very firm mattresses, but they were fine. Very good value, so definitely recommended!

Fantastic

Fantastic dive spots like Richelieu rock! Nice, helpful and competent crew! Delicious food! Especially Chloe with her empathic teaching and Yui for the fun dives and Pam for the good briefings and Gobi for the beautiful photographs!

Great trip

- food (Thai/Chinese/western/fresh fruit, non-meat eater well cooked after with tofu etc.) - the dives (4 divers in my group plus our leader, dive time 50 minutes) - shared photos

Great diving trip!

Smaller boat, enough room to move, great food and service. Almost all dives were fantastic (on did not have good visibility unfortunately). Unfortunately no Mega fora or sharks this trip but thats down to luck and timing. If all the boats got together they may be able to time water entry so that some dive sites could be less crowded. Please try to look after the sites, with this many divers it would be a shame for them to get too badly damaged.

Small Boat but Family Cozy Vibe

Unusual weather at this time of the year in Similan Islands which is such an experience. We got to play with an egg underwater during my partner’s AOW course.

Thoughtful crew and professional dive instructor/masters with lots of stories. Really delicious food. Coffee machine and ice maker really make a difference. The toilet can be cleaned better though.
