The Oceania catamaran is ready for exciting luxury dive cruises in Papua New Guinea. Based at the Walindi Resort, Oceania accommodates up to 16 guests in 8 cabins. Each stateroom is fully air-conditioned and features a private en-suite bathroom, daily fresh towels, storage space, a hairdryer, and stunning ocean views. Guests can relax inside our common outdoor areas during their stay onboard Oceania. The indoor salon and dining room are on the main deck and air-conditioned for comfort. An outdoor lounge and BBQ area are on the same level, and the upper deck has room for sunbathing and al-fresco dining.
Located in the Coral Triangle, Papua New Guinea is at the center of marine biodiversity and home to pristine reefs, a wide variety of fish, and a wide range of shark species, including silky and hammerhead. Dolphins regularly accompany the boat to entertain divers, and there are also occasional sightings of orcas, whale sharks, and pilot whales passing by. Oceania has several itineraries that change with the seasons and weather patterns to allow for the best diving possible. The large dive deck at the back of the boat includes individual storage areas, a camera table, and a dive deck bathroom and shower. A dive tender is on hand to make getting to and from the dive sites easy and stress-free.

Excellent choice for a PNG diving trip
Skipper Dan runs a very good operation and a well appointed boat. The cabins are spacious (for a liveaboard), the shower water pressure is excellent and hot water plentiful. Most of the crew have been with him for an extended period and the dive guides are knowledgeable and helpful. I will certainly consider doing another trip on this boat.

I will be doing it again
It was a wonderful time, great boat, crew and food. Could not ask for a better group of divers to be out with. New Guinea in country flights are hectic. Give yourself time and patience. But the New Guinea people are lovely.

Fish fest in the Bismarck Sea
Well run, comfortable boat with healthy reefs and easy diving. The Vitu Islands itinerary gives you a nice mix of reefs and muck dives, and though you are in quite a remote corner of the world, they do everything they can to make things as easy as possible. Keep in mind that for the time being, Visa on arrival is suspended, and local immigration can be slow and difficult to get a hold of. Plan for this.

Great dives and great team
Very nice experience on board the Oceania. We can only recommend embarking with Captain Dan and his team. The team is friendly and approachable. Dan is passionate and he loves to share with his guests. He is professional and focuses on comfort, safety and conviviality. There was a very good atmosphere on board.The food is varied and excellent. Only fresh products. Dessert in the evening for those with a sweet tooth;)The boat has been recently refurbished and the dive deck offers a large space to store your equipment and move around easily. Launching is very easy, it is done from the boat. The dives also end at the boat, easy ascent with the ladder. +1 point for the shower and soap available on the dive deck, it's super practical. The briefings are clear and the guides are serious about diving. They told us a lot of things to see or photograph. We particularly appreciated the fact that a buddy that consumes less air can enjoy a longer dive (this is made possible by the fact that the dive ends under the boat and that you only have to follow the anchorage to go back up). We did some really nice dives. The corals are healthy and there is a lot of life (fish and others). We met as many sharks as small nudibranchs, there is everything, it's varied. We alternated reef dives with muck dives, a great discovery even for those who appreciate big beasts. There are 4 dives per day (3 day + 1 night).The sites are not frequented by any other boat. Only Oceania sails in this area. It's so great. It will remain a very good memory. We hope to see Dan again soon for another circuit.

Already planning a second trip.
For a boat in a remote location with limited resources nearby this does a wonderful job. Being remote the reefs are intact, good fish life. We really enjoyed the diving. The vessel is comfortable and captain does his best to find the best places weather and comfort dependant.

A great boat with room to improve
Oceania is a boat with huge potential – and it could be right up there with the top-tier liveaboards. The vessel itself is spacious, and well laid out, especially the dive deck. The boat is kept spotless and very clean. The beds and linens were great. The unlimited fresh water (both hot and cold) was great for showers after dives and a luxury to be able to drink the water from the tap also in the cabins. That said, there’s some room for improvement. The main challenge for us was the timing of the meals. We understand a slight delay in meal times, but it was consistently 30+ mins later than scheduled, sometimes even a whole hour. Since the dives ran on time this meant a dive could be less than 30 mins after finishing a meal. Doing a dive partly against current on a full stomach isn’t pleasant. The food could also be more balanced – with more vegetables and healthier options. We understand that sourcing fresh produce in PNG can be a challenge, but even small adjustments could really elevate the experience and improve value for money. It seemed strange that we almost didn’t have any fish on the trip. Diving ranged from very good to just decent. Some reefs showed clear signs of bleaching, which of course is out of anyone’s control. Still, we had hoped for more big stuff and more drift diving, which we know exists in the region. However, the dive plan often seemed to be adjusted to accommodate less experienced divers or those who preferred calm, easy dives and macro life – partly due to the preferences of several guests who didn’t enjoy current, including some more experienced divers. We fully understand that people have different comfort levels and interests, but we had expected a trip more tailored to experienced divers seeking the best sites. We were also surprised that some divers onboard didn’t seem to meet the stated minimum experience level of 30 dives. Given the reputation of Papua New Guinea and the information on Liveaboard.com, we expected a trip more tailored to experienced divers seeking the region’s top – and sometimes more demanding – sites. That said, when conditions and logistics allowed, the crew showed a great willingness to explore less-visited sites – something we really appreciated. One of these turned out to be truly magical: vibrant, healthy corals, schools of fish, and plenty of sharks. It’s since been named “Mim’s Reef,” after the captain’s mother – and it was without a doubt one of the highlights of the trip. Guide performance was a bit mixed. Some were excellent at spotting and showing macro life, while others were more hands-off. The best guides were great and made a big difference to the dive experience.
