The Socorro Vortex schedules 8 to 10-night itineraries in the Socorro Islands to dive with friendly giant mantas, playful dolphins and humpback whales from October to June each year, before moving to the Guadalupe for exhilarating cage diving and snorkelling with great white sharks. The onboard camera station with charging facilities, cleaning areas and rinse tanks ensure that keen photo and videographers won't miss the action, and the spacious dive deck and platform, which has been designed with room to move and ample storage space, make diving as hassle-free as possible. To make the most of diving in Socorro, the Socorro Vortex liveaboard offers nitrox to divers for free and is a nitrox-only vessel.

Above the water, the Socorro Vortex liveaboard accommodates 14 guests in 7 staterooms. There is a choice of cabin class, including 4 Luxury Staterooms with twin or double beds located on the lower deck, two Junior Suites with twin or king beds on the main deck and one huge Master Suite with a California king bed on the upper deck. Each cabin features a private en-suite bathroom, individual climate control, charging ports and storage space. On the main deck is a salon with sofas and an entertainment system leading out to the dining room where freshly prepared dishes and complementary Baja California beer and wine are served. The sun deck has comfortable loungers and incredible views.

Guests can also book a unique experience on the SPOC (Self Propelled Ocean Cage) aboard Socorro Vortex. This will allow guests to get up close and personal to Great White Sharks in their own environment. More flexibility than a shark cage alone.

Great dives, uncomfortable and unstable boat

The three dive guides were great. They were calm, funny, approachable, and handled the crowd very well. The boat is very unstable. It was heeling from side to side over 12 degrees, which we actually measured! It would begin a series of side-to-side moves even with the smallest waves. The stabilizers were broken. The furniture inside the boat is not marine grade. It looked like regular Ikea furniture. Doors do not have door stops and violently slam every time the boat heels, which is very often. Doors have sharp corners and you are always afraid to get injured. Furniture does not have regular marine hardware such as latches and hooks. The closet doors open and close every time the boat moves. We had a bungee cord on our closet doors. Everyone on the boat was tired and sleepy from the constant rocking of the boat, including the crew. We decided not to stay the last night and went to a hotel. We've been on may liveaboard and boats in general. This was by far the most uncomfortable and poorly designed vessel. The crossing took 25 hours versus the advertised 16. Additionally, the panga (dinghy) driver was very inexperienced. We were always afraid of him getting close to us or driving in reverse. We will not go on this boat again.

Exceeding Expectations

I chose the vortex after contemplating between a couple of boats. Vortex was more expensive but looked like a less crowded boat with better accommodations. From the moment we reached the boat, the crew took us under their wings. It was superb service and great food throughout the trip. When it comes to the diving, these guys are pros. From gear, education to safety, the dive masters are exceptional. My dive master, Mathias is a pro. He did a wonderful job making sure we were having fun while staying safe and prepared for every new dive site. We had an amazing scuba diving trip that we will keep in our memories for years to come. I highly recommend the vortex and its crew.

The best diving we have ever had. Even a little better than the Maldives.

We had a great time with an experienced and safety oriented crew. With only 13 guests are every need was met. Food was more than adequate. Not gourmet but very adequeate. The diving was 1 step better than the Maldives and the boat was one step below the Scubaspa Yang. The Sacorro Vortex was substantially more money than the Scubaspa Yang we were not dissapointed with the experience. The diving was spectacular.

fantastic company to dive with

Just got home yesterday from the maiden voyage of the SOCORRO VORTEX! What a boat she was...beautiful, comfortable, and fast! She is very well equipped and complemented with an extremely professional, friendly and personable crew. I had a very memorable 8 days trip to the REVILLAGEDO ARCHIPELAGOS where I completed 19 dives in total. Got some great interactions and fantastic closeup pics of giant mantas, dolphins, hammerheads, and an enormous school of Jacks amongst the highlights. Even saw humpbacks on the surface, however was unable to get up close enough to dive with. I have been diving for 30+ years and have 1200+ dives and have been a guest aboard about a half dozen liveaboards and the SOCORRO VORTEX ranks right up there at the top. Not only with the comfort and the luxurious cabins, but the layout was extremely diver friendly. With separate personal indoor photographic and electronic work stations you never had to wait for space like on a shared camera table. Each station equipped with it's own 110 v power supply. Two pengas or zodiacs shuttle you to and from dive sites from the mother ship. Guest numbers is 14 total so there is always plenty of room aboard the VORTEX as she is 140 feet long! The top deck is a huge open sun deck, with a large jacuzzi hot tub and comfy lounge chairs for relaxing during your surface intervals. Overall to sum it up the people at PELAGIC FLEET placed a lot of time and effort to put out the best ship possible to provide the most demanding diver with the ship that allows you to be pampered, and to be surrounded with all the creature comforts to make all your dives on your vacation to be as easy as possible. Everything about the VORTEX is top shelf from the ship, amenities, food, and the crew. Last, but not least the VORTEX is a fast boat which means less travel time and more enjoyment time. Our crossing to the archipelagos took approximately 16 hours shaving approximately 9 hours off the average crossing time of 25 hours!
