Simply amazing
The Tanaka is an amazingly beautiful boat. I was worried about privacy on a boat, but there was plenty of space to find peace and the design is simply beautiful... I felt at home as soon as I stepped on board, and you simply know she was created with much love by the owner (Alain) who realised his dream... The rooms are well appointed and the beds comfortable and to have a hot shower after a dive is divine! Food was good. Drinks were perfect - unexpectedly found ourselves drinking some great French red wine! The diving was EPIC! Dive sites are unspoiled and corals so healthy, we have seen so much large stuff (incredible dive with Manta’s flirting with us for a full hour) and lots of amazing macro stuff as well (baby ghost pipe fish)... Strong currents, but very manageable with knowledgeable guides. Other guests on board were lovely and we shared an unforgettable experience... Diving in Komodo is epic and to experience it on a boat like the Tanaka makes it unforgettable - we will be back!

Definitely worth the trip!
Despite the Komodo National Park being closed, we 'made the best of it' and explored the surrounding areas, dive spots and beaches which were lovely especially for Macro. Alain the Captain is also very passionate about exploring new territory and was more than accommodating with sunset beach cocktails, hikes and fishing with the staff.

Fantastic 3 days on Tanaka!
Fantastic 3 night trip on Tanaka! Great diving, highlighted by seeing a group of about 15 mantas on the last dive of our second day. Very cool sunrise hike and Komodo trek on third day. Alain, Arnoud and crew were very accommodating and knowledgeable. Komodo national park is truly a treasure.

Wonderful, once-in-a-lifetime adventure!
We had an amazing time on board the Tanaka! Alain and Arnaud were wonderful hosts. We had many incredible experiences in just 4 short days. Our favorites were the visit to Rinca Island to see Komodo Dragons, diving with awesome sea life and coral, sunrise trek on Padar Island and sunset with the flying foxes. Thank you Tanaka crew, we’ll be back!!

Best manta encounters I've ever had! Varied dives; really fun drift dives, stunning coral walls and the best dive guides (a big shout out to Nelis!) Komodo Dragons on the beach and sunset drinks on the beach (different beaches!) Food and Crew were amazing Beautiful boat and the owner was aboard for the trip - he really wanted us to have the best experience.

A taste of paradise, on a breathtakingly beautiful vessel that compares in its
Our honeymoon in Indonesia was made special because of the four-day journey we took on the marvellous Tanaka. We were spoiled by its wonderful crew and the breathtaking views that she sailed past. We thoroughly enjoyed our SCUBA dives; each dive site was unique and excited us with its diverse, and tremendously rich marine life. Our favourite dives brought us to manta rays, in both 'cleaning' and 'feeding stations'. The latter involved a dive with a very strong current, which was safely executed thanks to the experienced diving instructors that thoroughly briefed and guided us. Very exhilarating! The manta rays are awesome, stunning creatures. At the 'cleaning station' dive site, a group of 8-10 manta rays swam in very close proximity to the us and the other divers! You can find many clips and images of some of the sites we dived at, including the marine biodiversity we saw, on the instagram account creativescubaimages. The Tanaka is the amalgamation of a passion project to build a Phinisi ship by a spirited Frenchman called Alain. A lot of love, research and consideration went into its design, and it was built using many traditional boat-making techniques in Burma. Alain will happily show you video clips he took of the making of the ship if you're curious. The Tanaka is a truly beautiful vessel, manned by a professional, friendly and experienced crew. Luxuries are catered for that guests probably won’t find met at the same high standards on other similar liveaboard getaways. The decks were kept clean and well organised. We stayed in its largest suite, which allowed us a private deck and view of the ocean from the rear of the boat. What luxury! The various cabins have air-conditioning, but we chose to keep our rear windows wide open at night and listen to the sound of the ocean while we slept. Delicious wines are stocked on board (we recommend the Grand Bateau Bordeaux), as well as beer, and cocktails are available too. At meal times, a mixture of local and western-style food was well prepared, abundant and delicious. We leave the Tanaka with fond feelings for the people we met and the memories we made. Bon Voyage Tanaka - may you sail on to touch the hearts of many more travellers (and lovers!) alike!
