A taste of Raja Ampat

There were many highlights. The amazing corals, prolific fish life and the varied dives. Certainly the mantas were a highlight but there were so many other animals big and small that made up the Raja Ampat experience. The Tambora was a great boat to explore the area. Would I travel on Tambora again? Yes. Will I return to Raja Ampat? Most certainly.

The best things were the food, diving and its organization and the staff.

Brilliant trip out of Sorong

Really every dive was outstanding. I've done 5 liveaboards and have 400+ dives, but this was the best. Of course the amazing diving and weather certainly added to the experience. The crew did a great job and the food was the best of the boats I've been on. So good, I've already booked another trip on the Tambora.

Beautiful Destination, Poor Diving Experience - Avoid

Apart from the destination, which is beautiful, we booked a scuba diving trip, but aside from 4 people, the rest of the group were free divers. Every dive was a compromise, as free divers generally avoid currents and choppy sea conditions. Timing was always wrong in terms of current. The boat manager was consistently late and disrespectful to guests. Even after setting a wake-up time or scheduling a briefing, he was often still sleeping, and we had to call him repeatedly. The food was poor, as we were served chicken nuggets and sausages almost every day (along with other simple dishes). We did relatively easy dives, but we experienced some major breaches in safety, such as filling air into nitrox-labeled tanks.
