The beautiful Mari liveaboard is a traditional Indonesian phinisi offering year-round diving trips in Raja Ampat, the Banda Sea, and Komodo National Park. Constructed entirely of ironwood and teak, the 30m Mari was refurbished in 2016 to offer modern furnishings and ample onboard space. She caters to a maximum of 14 guests in 7 cabins, ensuring a more personal experience and plenty of room to relax. There are 3 Deluxe and 4 Superior cabins, each offering individually controlled AC, storage space, and private bathrooms. All cabins are on the main deck, so they are bright and well-ventilated. Common areas include the open-air lounge, bar, and 2 sun decks with loungers. The recent addition of a highly-trained chef onboard means that a wide variety of fresh, healthy, and delicious cuisine will satisfy hungry divers. The Mari is a beautiful ship with skilled crew, fabulous dive masters, and wonderful food.
Each consecutive dive seemed to push the limits of the words FABULOUS, AMAZING, AND MAGNIFICENT. The huge diversity and vast amount of flora and fauna seen on this trip demonstrates the other-worldliness of reef life in Raja Amput. The diving is some of the best in the world and to have warm water, pleasant living conditions, and great food seemed like the tasty icing on a scrumptious cake.

Our dive masters highlighted the stunning coral gardens, searched and found the tiniest of micro organisms like pygmy seahorses and nudibranchs, and set us up to see the oceanic and reef mantas, woebegone sharks, and scads of reef sharks. The crew coordinated our dives so we never had our experiences negatively impacted by other divers. Our food and lodging was top shelf.

Great diving trip on the Mari
The diving trip on the Mari met our expectations all around. The boat and especially our cabin was great - we had enough space. The team took care of us so well, whether it was about the dive trips, our equipment, service, food, drink, we were well taken care of. Of course, the dive trip and the dive sites themselves were great too. We were totally impressed by the coral gardens and the biodiversity. Anytime again!

Paradise above and below the surface.
Everything. This is the second time that we have used this operator once in Komodo and now Raja Ampat. They are so attentive to your needs and wants. Their attention to detail is incredible for example from the first check dive they notice exactly how i like my BCD set up then each time is was perfect for me. The food through out the trip is always off the charts it was mix of local delights and a few western favorites thrown in there (like French Fries or Chips). Our Dive Guide was awesome he was super familiar with dive sites, currents, and read the conditions very well. He was also super knowledgeable when it came to Fish and Creature ID. I highly recommend the Mari and plan to do more trips on the BEAUTIFUL boat in the future.

Of course the diving was the highlight. We saw lots of Wobbegon and reef sharks and spent 2 dives at the manta cleaning station with friendly mantas. We swam with swirling schools of a thousand plus fish. I highly recommend the Mari!

The staff took care of our every need. We didn’t lift or carry any tanks. The Tender Boats were set up with all our gear and we were helped putting it on and off. The food was great and more than we could eat. The Indonesian boat was homey and comfortable.

Best crew ever for an amazing dive adventure
Everything was well organized from outside showers on deck to the snacks and the hot ginger tea after the nightdives and the excursions, not to forget the daily cleaning of the cabins. Very knowledgable dive guides for all the difference dive sites, with time for photo sessions under water in the search of the pygmea seahorses etc. Good rental equipment, Air and Nitrox, secure dive procedures. Food was very good and plenty as well. I would dive with Ungke and his crew again anytime. But best of all was the friendly atmosphere on board, smiles and laughter and a good time

We absolutely loved it!
We just got back from a Misool trip and loved every minute of it! 🤩 The dive sites were spectacular and the cruise director Ungke chose the best sites for us. We also had special requests and he was able to accommodate them all. All the dive guides were wonderful as well, from spotting the tiniest seahorses underwater to helping us above water (especially when jumping off the boat deck into some nice current). Literally everyone on board was friendly and always helpful with whatever we needed - the Mari crew was top notch!! The boat layout itself is very clean and spacious, with lots of space in the cabins and dive deck for all our dive and camera gear. We also appreciated boarding early when we arrived in Sorong, we had our welcome drinks not even 2 ours after the flight landed. 😋 We are already planning our next trip on the Mari!

Perfect liveaboard in Raja Ampat at great value for money
The service and flexibility of the guides and crew were very good. This made the safari on the Mari a great experience. The boat has solid equipment with air conditioning as well as hot showers in every room.There was only Indonesian cuisine for food, but that was okay because there was something for everyone. We would love to come back again!

Amazing Trip 7D/6N Raja Ampat
We had a really nice trip in March 2019. The trip was exactly like the description. The crew was so helpful and friendly. There was a lot of good food at any time. Before every dive there was a good briefing and the divemasters have a lot of experience. We were 11 guests divided into 3 dive groups. We saw the walking sharks, Mantas, a lot of macros and so much more! We really can recommend to dive with Mari in Raja Ampat.

Super nice dive trip!
Manta Rays, reef sharks, turtles and sooo many fishes!! Land excursions to beautiful view points. Yummy breakfast after the morning dive and always changing varieties of lunch and dinner even for veg. Nice places on the boat to hang out, especially the sun deck. Cabins very clean and comfortable with air con for hit times in the day and hot shower, very nice after a long exhausting dive! Whole schedule in time, Airport transfer no Problem!

It was a fantastic and long trip… great crew… they gave me a single room without much extra charge, which fine…It was a very rewarding adventure, the boat is rustic but has charms and is well maintained…The food supply was a bit on the scarce side (set menus, no buffet style, sometimes i went to bed a bit hungry- I had a kilo of peanuts as backup that was worth it)Otherwise great spirits on bord, enthusiastic divers , adventurous trip!Loved it

World class diving with a great crew
This liveaboard offered truly world-class diving and an overall excellent experience. The quality and diversity of the dives were outstanding. We had multiple encounters with pelagic species, including both oceanic and reef mantas, large schools of fish, trevallies, barracudas, and wobbegong sharks. At the same time, there was fantastic macro life throughout the trip: nudibranchs, tiny crabs, octopus, and many other small creatures that made every dive interesting. We completed a total of 35 dives, and the vast majority of them were absolutely stunning. We spent five days diving in Misool, which is genuinely an underwater paradise. The soft corals were incredibly healthy and vibrant, and the reefs were full of life. Diving both the south and north of Raja Ampat made the trip feel very complete, offering a great balance of landscapes, biodiversity, and dive styles. The crew was absolutely amazing and consistently helpful throughout the trip. Everyone was attentive, kind, and professional. The cruise director, Ungke, deserves special mention—he was friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly dedicated to making sure everyone had a positive experience. He went out of his way to accommodate guests and ensure smooth operations both in and out of the water. The food was another highlight of the trip. The chef did an excellent job providing three meals a day with varied, delicious, and well-prepared dishes. Every meal was flavorful and satisfying, while also being healthy, with plenty of vegetables and fresh fruit. It was impressive how consistent the quality was throughout the entire trip. The boat itself is a traditional wooden vessel with a warm and charming atmosphere. Before booking, I was a bit concerned that the cabins might be small based on photos. We stayed in a bunk bed cabin with an en-suite bathroom, and overall the room was comfortable and very clean. The bathroom is quite small and is a fully wet bathroom, but it functioned well and was manageable for a liveaboard trip. One thing to be aware of is that engine fumes can sometimes enter the cabins when the wind is blowing from the stern. Additionally, the crew smokes at the back of the boat, and at times the smell carried into our cabin. This issue appeared to be more noticeable for the two cabins located behind us (also bunk bed cabins). If you are sensitive to smoke, I would recommend avoiding cabins six and seven.

Amazing adventure, unique experiences and awesome people
Met and got to know some really amazing people as we dove together in the most amazing dive spots in the world. One dive we just lay on the ocean floor for 50 minutes watching five mantas hovering over a cleaning station - unbelievable!!! So many fish!!! Species you won’t see anywhere else. The side excursions were really fun and interesting. Twelve days barely seemed enough! Thanks Stefan, Mila, Ungke and crew for an amazing time.

Incredible expirience
Everything was just perfect. The staff at Mary boat is amazing. They are very professional. They are very concerned about safety in the dives. The boat have all the facilities to reach the diving points. They choose the best place to dive and during the night they choose safety places to anchor the boat to have a good sleep experience. The chef made this trip an memorably experience. He did so many wonderful and tasty food that I will miss him a lot. I really recomend to choose this boat and the itinerary in Raja Ampat.

Amazing! Diving + Crew + Fellow Divers + Food = Travel Magic!
A truly great experience, diving with the amazing crew and guests on the Mari!! The boat is older and a traditional wooden build. It has character, that is to say it is not a gleaming white fiberglass and stainless steel mass. The cabins are small, but larger than other liveaboards we have done, and include a private bathroom. The cabins are cleaned each day during your first dive, which is a very welcome touch. Mari has everything you need to enjoy your diving trip. And diving is what you will do, starting as early as 6 am or 7am when the Mari's wonderful Dive Director, Ungke, gives the first briefing, and finishing up after dark when you opt to do a night dive. The routine for dive liveaboards (for any 1st timers) is dive, eat, rest, dive, eat, rest…. rinse and repeat. But don’t worry about your gear, the crew will take care of that. Our dive guide was Irvin and he was great - friendly, safe and fun! We appreciated that he reminded everyone to check, check, double check your gear before the dive launches left the Mari. The launches are simple outboard boats that comfortably fit 4-6 divers. There were 13 (of 14 max capacity) guests on our trip and 2 of them were snorkeling only. So with 3 dive boat runs (one boat makes 2 trips to the sites) we had a maximum of 4 divers per dive group - yippee! The diving itself was as you would expect for Raja Ampat - Amazing! That said the visibility on our days to the south, off the east coast of Misool, was not that good at 5-10 meters. But even with limited viz there was an amazing amount and variety of coral and fish. Above water the scenery in that area is fantastic with picture postcard “gum drop” islets. The calm seas made it easy to spot the dolphins as they cruised by. We hiked up to an observation deck for a once in a lifetime view of Heart Lagoon you do not want to miss. We were on the trip for both Christmas and New Years and were treated to a Christmas afternoon visit by a whale and calf, magical. It was 1 of several whale sightings on our 12-day trip. Dives up north had much better visibility, at about 20-30 meters. But your experience may be different, diving is always an adventure. Wobbegong sharks, walking sharks, manta rays, reef sharks, turtles, eels, sea snakes, cuttlefish, squid, crocodile fish, nudibranch, pygmy seahorses (so many pygmy seahorses), schools of everything, the list goes on and on. As retired dive instructors we were blown away on a daily basis by the insane variety and quantity of marine life and the mind-blowing assortment of corals, sponges, anemones... WOW!! The kitchen staff of the Mari is fantastic, the food we had for every meal was abundant and well-prepared and delicious. And there were so many meals! We started each day with a quick breakfast before the first dive. After the first dive, there was a full breakfast (that's right Hobbit fans there is a “second breakfast”). Lunch follows the 2nd dive of the day, and snacks follow after the 3rd. Dinner follows the night dive, when it is time to take a nap before 1st breakfast and do it all again. So much food!! But quantity aside, the chef was wonderful. We were expecting a steady diet of fried rice and fried noodles, like we have experienced in other parts of Indonesia, but that was far from our Mari experience. The chef spent years working in high-end hotels and other liveaboards, and his experience showed in the variety and quality of every recipe! The variety of meats, fresh fruit and veg, and accompaniments of rice, potato, pasta and bread was insane, given that we were on a boat in the middle of Raja Ampat. And the kitchen took special requests too, like the from-scratch sambal they made every day for our group, and the ginger and palm sugar tea that sometimes appeared for snack time. No first class restaurant would be complete without the front- of-house staff, in this case Ever, who had his hands full with our diverse group. Amazing, wonderful, fantastic and unbelievable!!!
The whole trip was highlights. I have been on many liveaboards all over the world and this one was the best! It is not fancy. It is homey, comfortable, relaxed and personal. The food was yummy (new chief) and lots of it. I have no complaints.

Very nice boat, and great diving, and their was plenty of good food.
It was great seeing so many sharks. I have dived before and seen sharks, but never this many. The dive guides were great, friendly and knowledgeable. Their ability to spot wildlife was incredible and they made the experience amazing. Make sure you know what you are renting though, as despite ticking and not ticking various items before arriving, I was given it all and charged as well. I should have checked when I was handed everything but I accepted it all without question assuming it was in line with what I had requested earlier and then was handed the bill at the end.
