The beautiful 30m Manta Mae liveaboard was built in traditional Phinisi style to offer fantastic diving itineraries around the truly diverse region of Komodo and Raja Ampat, Indonesia. Launched in 2014 and catering to a maximum of 9 guests, the Manta Mae Indonesia offers personalized service, focusing on creating unique experiences and lifelong memories.
The Manta Mae Phinisi offers plenty of space for relaxation, both indoors and outside. On the main deck is the indoor salon with AC, a comfortable lounge area, and a bar with a fridge, ice maker, plasma TV, and an Apple computer. For those who wish to soak up the sun and stunning Indonesian scenery, the main deck also offers space for sunbathing and has a large seating and lounge area, a great place to relax in the shade of Manta Mae’s huge sails. Freshly prepared meals can be served al fresco at the outdoor dining table. On the upper deck, there is more space for sunbathing or lounging on the bean bags in between dives. The Manta Mae has only 5 cabins, with one Master and two Deluxe. The large Master Cabin has a king-size bed and an additional single, and the two Deluxe Cabins have a queen-size bed and one single. All rooms have en-suite bathrooms, AC, TV, and safety boxes.
Underwater divers & snorkelers can enjoy the best that Indonesia has to offer. From Mola Mola & Manta Ray encounters in Komodo to pristine dive sites in Raja Ampat, there’s something for everyone. On top of that, there are fantastic land-based activities on offer, such as hiking in Rinca to see Komodo Dragons, kayaking through mangroves, or enjoying beach BBQs at sunset on remote Indonesian islands.

Alone on the sea
With such a small group of guests, it was easy to find some alone time to enjoy the sea and the sky. The decks have ample covering, so you can find a shady spot if you aren't trying to tan continuously. We were alone on the reefs 90% of the time, and usually dove in 2 groups of 4, which was great. The crew was super friendly. The cook is really good, and every meal was incredible. And they had an espresso machine! This trip was a dream, and I would definitely book again.

Great diving experience with a very friendly staff
Mantas and millions of fish. Perfect size for a boat with max. 9 people. Always a place to relax on a bean bag. Delicious food and smoothies. Nice trips to beautiful islands. Excellent diving guides, and good rental equipment - thank you Ben and Herman! A trip I will never forget! Tipps: Barefoot boot, only bring flip flops. Avoid the bunk cabin as it is close to the generator.

Excellent. We liked the fact that the boat had few passengers
We liked the cook´s skills, the food was tasty. The crew were friendly and helpful. The master diving guide was friendly too. He was willing to talk and entertain us. He was knowledgable about the geography and history of the places we visited. He had a good sense of humor too.

Just dive in and forget the world above
Dive sites such as Castle Rock, Chrystal Rock. I will never forget diving at the shotgun. On the penultimate day we saw manta rays directly above us.Roy went out of his way to find our wishes (on animals/creatures)Jace was able to give me some good tips when taking pictures. The whole crew made you feel at home. Also interesting was the excursion to the dragons and in the evening to see the bats changing islands at sunset.

Friendly crew on a comfy boat with amazing marine biodiversity!
The manta mae is a very comfortable, smaller liveaboard boat. The entire crew was very kind and welcoming, and the food was delicious. The dive sites offered ample variety- from reefs, to sea mounts, drift dives, night dives, wall dives etc. Unfortunately the visibility was not ideal during my trip- this is of course not the fault of the operator though. It was the full moon, and the previous years warm el nino cycle has killed coral, leaving polyps floating in the water. Despite that, the biodiversity of fish, pelagic, coral & invertebrate species was spectacular, and a definite highlight. I do recommend that the operator puts more effort into splitting up dive groups based on experience/ability though- i was paired with less experienced divers, which definitely hindered the sites/dive profiles available to us. Overall, i would definitely recommend the manta mae- but think twice about going to raja ampat if you are not at least advanced level with 50-60+ dives, and comfortable diving in moderate to strong currents. There are plenty of other good diving areas in Indonesia to use as a 'training ground', so you can make the most of your dives in Raja, and allow the rest of the divers in your group to as well :).
