Blackbeards Sea Explorer, Bahamas

The 65’ sloop, Blackbeard's Sea Explorer, offers year round dive trips to the crystal clear waters of the Bahamas. Diving with sharks, exhilarating drift diving, beautiful walls and blue holes are what make the Exuma Cays so special. There is no set itinerary aboard the Sea Explorer liveaboard, the captain and crew will take the boat where the conditions and weather are best, and with over 250 moored dive sites there is no shortage of amazing places to dive!

Blackbeard's Sea Explorer, which is the identical twin sister of Morning Star liveaboard and sister vessel of Aqua Cat, offers 3 dormitory style cabin areas with 18 bunks and 3 heads. Each cabin area has AC, and all are sectioned off with privacy curtains, similar to a sleeper cabin on a train. A trip with Blackbeards Sea Explorer includes up to 19 dives, all meals and snacks and all drinks including beer, wine and rum punch. When you take a trip with Blackbeard's Sea Explorer, not only will you discover some of the best diving the Bahamas has, but you will make life-long friends and have an adventure to remember.

Great value for money

Although cabins and bathrooms are rustic - still clean and comfortable, the food was amazing and super tasty... Dan, the cook, converts the diving trip also into a foodie tour, serving 3 meals and 2 snacks a day:) Crew was great and always friendly and attentative. even though weather conditions were so so, captain Chris and his team made the best out of it. They brought in as much diving diversity as possible even restrained by limited possibilities due to sea conditions. We had shark feeding, diving through a washing machine, deep dives, wrecks, very vivid night dives etc. The instructor/ dive master Ian is great fun and always happy to help. felt secure and in good hands and all times. Very recomendable dive trip!

Dive trip like Camping on sea

Sharks up and close, exciting swimthroughs, being on a live aboard with my partner. And that we all had a great time together partying without it getting out of hand.

Good week

Shark feeding, spending time with turtles, good drift dives, no dive master on dives so we planned our dives as we wished emptied our tanks.

Bucket list

There was a cathartic aspect to the trip, processing grief. Two of the 19 paying guests were men dealing with recent loss of our wives to beain tumors. The other guy in that situation placed a papier mache tirtle holding his wife’s ashes on the first dive. I was merely taking a trip that her condition over many years had made impossible, in keeping with her dying demand that the kids and I go forward embracing life with joy and love. She could not tolerate boating very well and could not have qualified medically for scuba in the past 25 years; she would be pleased to see me doing both. The crew did all they could to help me as a barely certified novice diver sorely lacking in scuba experience to develop. Of the other passengers, several had decades of scuba experience as instructors and dive masters. I benefited from diviing with them, especially one who volunteered to be my dive buddy. Accommodations were Spartan, which I knew, but I loved being rocked to sleep in my bunk. Food was consistently excellent.

Dreaming of my next one

This is one of the best things I’ve ever done in my life. I wasn’t looking forward to going to the Bahamas by myself, everyone always bails. I’m so happy I did this. Amazing experience, the food is some I’ve ever had in my life, I would go back just for that. Ask for reds boat and Dan as the cook. The dives and the sharks and the fish and the blue hole, I loved everything aside from the small heads and shower. I’m a bigger boy so everything’s small to me. Deciding if I want to do Bahamas next year again or go to another country. No matter what, I’m doing a liveaboard again!
