What to expect On an Ende Liveaboard

One of the biggest attractions for liveaboard diving in Ende region is that there really is something for everyone. Even beginners will find easy dives here as the conditions are slightly milder than other parts of Indonesia. Whatever kind of dive trip you are interested, in there will be something to catch your interest in Ende.
Ende is to the South of the popular port of Maumere on the island of Flores. The area around Ende enjoys substantial tourist attention, due to the beautiful multi-coloured lakes close to the city near mount Kelimutu. Ende popular with divers too, the region is also located in the coral triangle which means that the waters are some of the most biodiverse in the world. Beautiful reefs are a given on dive tours in Ende and plentiful and the waters are full diverse reef fish and critters for divers to admire.
Liveaboard Diving from Ende
Diving liveaboards in the Ende area benefit from its position, close to some of the top dive sites for Banda Sea diving. Nearby, Maumere has some of the best muck diving around, and the wreck of a Japanese World War II ship in around 10 to 25 meters of water. The wreck of the Wai Terang is home to a host of critters and lots of lion fish, hanging out in the overhangs. Despite being damaged in the last Tsunami and the earthquake that hit the island, the reefs here are spectacular with a lot of the life growing back at an unexpected rate.
Further to the East, the island of Alor offers a tranquil escape and some very beautiful reefs. If your dive cruise takes you to Sharks Galore, then you will be treated to big grey reef sharks and white tips patrolling the area. Close by, Kupang also offers up some more muck diving with eels and shrimp everywhere, perfect for macro photographers. Close to Kupang, there is also Monkey island where there are stingrays and turtles around the reefs.
There are also freshwater caves and caverns that can be dived in, on the coast near Kupang. These go miles into the island and have stalagmites and fossils lining their walls. As you can see scuba diving in Ende offers a huge range of dives making it the perfect diving destination for all kinds of interests.
Getting to Ende
Considering the number of dive sites spread across this area a dive cruise is really the best way to get around if you want to make the most of all the different places. Most dive safaris in Ende, offer three or four dives per day in several of the best locations around the island region.
There are several different types of liveaboard boats in Ende, motor vessels are popular as they offer the luxury liveaboard experience. The majority of Indonesian dive liveaboards in Ende begins at the port of Maumere or occasionally Labuan Bajo. Reaching this area is fairly easy, with flights daily from Bali International Airport or less frequently from other domestic airports in Indonesia.
